About the Artist
Pt. Brij Bhushan Goswami, was born on May 1961 into a family of illustrious musical experts steeped in refined culture, devotion and sophisticated tradition of Barsana.
As a distinguished scholar, musician and renowned Dhrupad vocalist, he is associated with the highly esteemed Darbhanga Gharana. He initially inherited his musical talent from his grandfather Late Pt. Amol Chand Goswamiji – an established Haveli Sangeet Vocalist at Radha Rani Temple Barsana, Distt. Mathura (U.P.)
Later under the tutelage of Pt. Vidur Mallickji, the greatest maestro of Darbhanga Gharana, he nurtured inherent talent and potential. With long arduous training and consistent dedication and hard work, he imbibed the most prominent and rich heritage of Dhrupad in his innovative and live performances.
Apart from Dhrupad-Dhamar, he has extensive exposure in Haveli Sangeet Parampara which revolves around Krishna Bhakti and performed in lyrical verses as Padas.
Brij Bhushan Goswami has achieved numerous accolades in the field of music which includes Top Grade in Classical Music (Dhrupad) from All India Radio, Delhi; Grade I Music Composer, empanelled as "Established Artist" with ICCR, Delhi; U.P. Sangeet Natak Academy Award; Kala Sarathi, Braj Ratna.
In addition to his distinguished career in music, he holds a doctorate from Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University, Agra, which he earned in 1996. His doctoral research, titled Braj ke Raas ka Sangeet Parak Adhyayan, is a comprehensive study that delves into the intricate relationship between music and the traditional Raas performances of the Braj region. His research reflects a deep commitment to preserving and understanding the rich musical heritage of Braj, and it continues to contribute valuable insights to the fields of Indian classical music and regional performing arts.
Singing Style
Pt. Brij Bhushan Goswami sincerely nurtures the musical tradition of Darbhanga Gharana with the glorious essence of Khandar Vani. He renders his performances with an air of confidence and self-possession. Gifted with a melodious and resonant voice, he has abundant measures of rare quality, that called Taseer which creates a genuine impact on the listeners and projects a glorious tenor in the pattern of Alap, Laya, Meend and Chhot cutting subtleties from his Gharana.
He combines his original vision and innovation with ancient literature of devotee poets. He embellishes his vocal recital with variation of Alap in interesting four sections, maintaining the clarity of pronunciation with deep emotions at the time of presentation to soar un-scaled height.
